2012 K-W LatinFest Puts Children First with Carnival-Concert

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 5, 2012 (WATERLOO, ONTARIO) Neruda Productions

A free event devoted to children’s programming and entertainment will launch this year’s K-W LatinFest. Parents and children are invited to attend a Latin American mask-making workshop and interactive concert featuring children’s band, Taking Turns on Friday July 13th from 5-8pm at the Waterloo Community Arts Centre in the Button Factory. No advance booking required, just show up!

Costume experts Crystal Bradford and Liam Kijewski, of Trash Theatre and Earth Day’s Procession of the Species, will prepare kids for the concert with a mask-making workshop using recycled materials and a lot of exuberance.

“Children can really get in the spirit of things with masks that they have created themselves,” says Bradford.

Taking Turns combines the musical talent of Amadeo Ventura, who has performed and recorded with New York jazz giants, Jerry Gonzalez and John Stubblefield, and led the Mambo Urbano Orchestra, with the expertise of child educator, storyteller and entertainer Luciana De Santis.

This concert is devoted to children, but Luciana and Amadeo “promise to get everyone dancing to the mambo and the cha-cha-cha as they learn about new rhythms, instruments and cultures.”

LatinFest organizers want the carnival atmosphere of the children’s concert to set the tone for the main events taking place in the Waterloo town square on Saturday when international Latin bands David Alvarez & Juego de Manos and Palo Cruzao perform.
