Neruda Productions Triples the Nights Fantastic
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MARCH 9, 2012 (WATERLOO, ONTARIO) Neruda Productions presents three nights of World Music guaranteed to awaken the restless souls of Waterloo to the delights of spring.
Starting with local maestros of reggae, rock steady, and afro-beat fusion— eKhaya will shake up The Jazz Room on April 19th. Word of advice for those who don’t know eKhaya -- prepare to dance, a lot!!
On April 21st, Charango virtuouso Freddy Torrealba joins Toronto’s Proyecto Altiplano and Grupo Chile for a concert at Chrysalids Theatre. This is jambalaya—Latin style!
Torrealba, a professor of Latin American string instruments in Chile, has been performing since he was a teenager. He has toured the US, Canada, Europe and South America where he is celebrated as a ‘Master of the Charango’ (The charango is a traditional South American instrument similar to a mandolin or ukulele).
While Proyecto Altiplano draws inspiration from the music and rhythms of Indigenous, African and Creole, Latin American traditions, one of its tunes is a traditional Irish slip jig! Grupo Chile, renowned for the expressiveness and authenticity of its folkloric dance performances, will add visual splendor to this musical reunion between Torrealba and Proyecto Altiplano.
Last but not least, Colombian-born, JUNO nominee Diego Marulanda plays the Chrysalids on May 12th. Marulanda plays numerous traditional and contemporary instruments and is a distinguished singer-songwriter, dance, theatre, film and television scoring composer whose breadth of experience in contemporary and world music is global.
