Neruda Arts Unveils Kultrún World Music Festival’s Program


20 Bands from 16 different countries descend on Victoria Park July 7 to 9, 2017

Neruda Arts unveiled its program for Kultrún World Music Festival. This year’s 20 bands represent over 16 different nations and cultural communities including First Nations, Inuit, as well as Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, South Africa, Turkey, USA and Zimbabwe. The lineup presents award winning, world famous international bands such as Tanghetto and Djmawi Africa, as well as the Canadian Jerry Cans and Quique Escamilla. A wide range of music genres will be played such as pop, rock, reggae, tango, salsa, cumbia, meringue, dub, boleros, punk and many more. Over 10 free interactive activities for the entire family will be also available at the festival grounds such as music jams, drum circles, photo booth, Indigenous storytelling, dance, parade and more. Kultrún’s Opening Gala is the only ticketed in-door event held at THEMUSEUM on July 7 at 8pm featuring Amanda Martinez and Elsa Jayne. The festival also features The Conversation: Looking Back While Moving Forward, a panel discussion led by diverse leaders of our community.

About Kultrún
Dubbed the Region’s ‘biggest outdoor dance party, Kultrún is a family-friendly celebration of diversity featuring local, national and international world music bands, all-ages interactive activities, workshops by professional artists, performance art, a food, craft and art market and a beer-garden cantina. Kultrún is a FREE festival taking place July 7-9, 2017 in Downtown Kitchener’s Victoria Park. The Festival runs Saturday from 12noon - 11pm and Sunday from 12noon-9pm.
