Kultrún Festival To Light Up Public Square

Kultrún: The Sound and Rhythm of World Music

July 11-12, 2014 Neruda Arts presents Kultrún, its new free festival in the Uptown Waterloo Public Square.

As we did with LatinFest, Neruda Arts will once again light up the Public Square with a great line-up of local, national and international artists who draw on traditional forms and expressions to create exciting new hybrid styles of world music. Kultrún is also a family friendly celebration of diversity with workshops, activities, and programming for all ages.

Kultrun is replacing LatinFest but Neruda Arts Artistic Director, Isabel Cisterna promises “the new festival will still have a strong Latin component, but it will also respond to the growing diversity in the Region by featuring world music performers of all genres.”

Artists from Around the World

This year the line up includes urban Latin MC, Boogat, Innu reggae artist, Shauit, Salsa Band, El Gremio, who will perform on both Friday and Saturday night, new generation Mozambican band, Kakana, vallenato band Los Fantasticos, Swedish a cappella group, Kongero, the Jaime Rodriguez Band, international ambassador of hip hop culture, Vox Sambou, Martinican bèlè artist, Stella Gonis, and many other dynamic performances by artists who explore the social and artistic possibilities of multiculturalism and globalization.

This year Kultrún will feature all-ages workshops on dance, music and crafts, storytelling and puppet theatre for children, food and craft vendors, a beer garden, and more! Bring your family to Kultrún and celebrate the diversity and creativity that drives world music!
