Participate in an Ancient Ritual - Create Animitas or Shrines for Neruda Arts' Day of the Dead Event

Neruda Arts is inviting the public to help create 20 small animitas or shrines for its Day of the Dead festivities on November 1, 2014. The Day of the Dead event is 1 of over 20 FREE performance and art installations included in this year’s annual Nuit Blanche-style Night/Shift Festival in Downtown Kitchener. The shrine-making workshop will take place October 29th from 6-9pm at 157 King Street West in Downtown Kitchener (beside Budd’s Department Store). You don’t need to be an artist and all supplies will be provided. However, if you want to dedicate a shrine to a deceased friend or family member we ask that you bring a picture or object associated with the person. Candle-lit animitas will usher visitors into a Day of the Dead event that will include mariachis, dancers, a photo exhibit, calaveros or skull face painting for adults, a DJ, scary treats and more. For more information about Neruda Arts’ Day of the Dead event visit nerudaarts.ca. Please RSVP to David Junca - dsjunca@gmail.com to confirm your participation in the workshop.
