Come join us for the Canada 150 mural reveal with Neruda Arts.
The mural depicts a story about the celebration of belonging, equity, social justice, and respect for cultural diversity within the country we call home. This is a free event to help us recognize the over 150 members of the community who came together to contribute to this piece. This project was lead by a team of local and international professional artists including:
Directly from the south of Chile (Chiloe and Puerto Montt) and for the first time in Canada, Emilia Diaz brings her band to tour Southwestern Ontario, presented by Neruda Arts.
This concert will showcase the musical stylings of Emilia Diaz. Her poetic sounds and soulful voice make for a beautiful experience unlike any other. In Addition she will pay tribute to Chile's most iconic singer song writer, Violeta Parra on her 100th birthday world celebrations.

Up first is Juneyt and his band followed by a 40 minute intermission, then Cape Verde's rising star, Elida Almeida will take to the stage. The Gala takes place at 8pm at TheMusem in Downtown Kitchener – cash bar and food catered by B@TheMuseum. Doors open at 7:30pm. For our first Show the World concert of 2014, Neruda Arts presents bossa nova artist Márcio Faraco with Philippe Baden Powell in the gracious surroundings of the Waterloo Region’s only authentic Spanish villa, La Hacienda Sarria! A Brazilian transplanted to France, Faraco has serenaded audiences from Rio to the Riviera with his delicate and masterful guitar playing and seductive vocals.
Philippe Baden Powell is a veteran of the Brazilian and international jazz scene and past winner of the prestigious Montreux Jazz Piano Solo Competition. Just listen to what Marke Andrews of the Vancouver Sun had to say about Faraco and Powell after their performance in 2012:
Singer-songwriter Alex*Cuba hails from Artemisa, Cuba (1 hour west of Havana) and resides in Smithers, B.C. (14 hours north of Vancouver). Musically, he lives everywhere in between. His trademark sugarcane-sweet melodies, pop-soul hooks and rock chords subtly subvert commonly held notions of what Cuban music is. Alex is on the vanguard, crafting a cross-cultural sound that mirrors his geographical journey. Not tied to tradition, this Cuban-Canadian prefers his vintage Gibson over el sencerro (cowbell) anytime.
