About the Event

Opening Concert with Newen Afro Beat (Chile) July 12th 8pm The Museum

$35 per ticket. A chance to be up close and personal with Kultrún's Headliner. Beer by TWB. Food available. Super band to dance to and a great way to meet some of the other artists taking part in the festival. Newen Afrobeat is the first Afrobeat band whose roots were formed in Chile. The inspiration for their style comes from the pioneer of Afrobeat, Nigerian born, Fela Kuti. Although their native roots also influence their music, their repertoire includes some of Kuti's titles.

This groove machine has sparked collaborations with Seun Kuti, Tony Allen, Oghene Kologbo and Cheik Tidiane Seck and thrilled audiences from Chile and Brazil to Nigeria, the US and Europe. Their lyrics carry social messages supporting the Mapuche cause; inviting listeners to transcend the limits of modern society and liberate themselves through an energetic performance. In the Mapuche language, Newen, means 'strength'.
